Sporting Champions in the Girls’ Junior School

Charlotte | Year 4

This year, we have had two of our Junior School students represent Victoria in their respective sports, demonstrating great commitment and passion! We are so proud of the effort that these girls put into their training and would like to share a tribute to their accomplishments with you.

Through her dedication and strong commitment to swimming, Charlotte Butlin was selected as 1 of 25 10-12 year old students in Victoria to represent TeamVic at the School Sport Australia Swimming Championship in Sydney. Competing in both individual events and team relays, Charlotte achieved personal best times in all of her races, showing her commitment and work ethic to achieve her goals. She took in every moment of the experience, making friends with her teammates in what was a wonderful and supportive environment. A truly incredible achievement Charlotte!

Eloise | Year 6

Eloise Fox utilised her strength and power when attending the School Sport Victoria TeamVic Athletics trials. Throwing an enormous 26m in discus, Eloise was selected for TeamVic Athletics and will compete in November at the School Sport Australia Track and Field Championships. We look forward to supporting Eloise during this event and wish her the best of luck as she shines in her event!

BJS Softball

Congratulations to our Years 5 and 6 Interschool Softball Team who competed in the Divisional Finals on last Wednesday and were pipped by two runs in their final game in a very exciting round robin, and therefore just missing out on progressing to the State Championships. The boys’ sense of fair play and attitude has been exemplary all year and makes them the champions to us!

EISM 5 a side Soccer Competition

On Wednesday 11 October, Tintern Grammar competed in the annual EISM 5 a side Soccer Competition at Knox Regional Soccer Centre. On a warm day, Tintern Grammar had four teams competing, a Junior Boys’ team, Junior Girls’ team, Senior Boys’ team, and a Senior Girls’ team. The Senior boys team played very well on the day, winning their first two matches, and playing off in a semi-final against the King David School. The Senior boys played well in the semi-final but unfortunately lost to King David, who were eventual winners of the competition. The Senior girls, Junior girls and Junior boys team found the competition tough. They all tried their best during each match but unfortunately weren’t able to win a game. Congratulations to Jonty Benfield in the Senior Boys’ team, who was awarded equal best and fairest player along with winning the leading goal scorer for the day.

Congratulations to Year 9 student Jonty, who recently competed in the 2023 National Youth Championships for Boys Soccer in Sydney. His team, Victoria Blue made it through the finals against strong competition and in challenging weather. In the Grand Final against QLD Jonty’s team dominated from the start, with Jonty contributing greatly as Goalkeeper to the 3-0 win. As the only player in history to have won the National Youth Championships twice, it is an amazing achievement. Adding to the fact that these premierships are back-to-back and that he has represented two different states, Jonty can be rightly proud of his efforts throughout the tournament.

We congratulate Year 8 student Ethan who was selected to represent Victoria at the 2023 Australian Youth Volleyball Championships recently. He played 11 games in total and led his teammates through to the finals to win Bronze (the only one medal for all Victorian teams in this boy’s group).
