Fingergym

This term at the ELC we have begun our Fingergym program. The program runs twice a week so all children can participate.

Fingergym is a structured rotational program, where the children experience an activity from the following groups:

  • Strengthening fine and gross motor skills
  • Sensory and planning
  • Fine Motor coordination
  • Pencil to paper
  • Scissor work

Each experience specifically targets a child’s development from physically enhancing their shoulder, hand and finger muscles to strengthening their fine motor skills in cutting with scissors, pencil skills and manipulating small objects.

We began our first week as an ELC with experiences that had focus points on bilateral coordination, hand dominance and visual tracking and focus.

Through role modelling and verbal cues from the program, Teachers and Co Educators have been able to observe and support each child as they move through the rotational program to gain a better understanding of their abilities and how to further support them in the future.

All our Early Learners, Pre-Prep A and Prep-Prep B students have responded positively to the new addition to their learning program.
