On Wednesday 3rd of August two teams of Year 8 students from Tintern attended the Maths Association of Victoria Year 8 Maths Games Day. This challenging maths event held at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School, involved 96 teams from various Victorian schools. Five rounds of challenging maths problems put our teams to the test. Our teams participated in a number of challenges involving pure maths, luck of the draw and also some very tactical games which were played out between two schools. Joshua Chang, Jeremy Yuen-Love, Matthew Xu, Joshua Winter, Darcee McCallum, Annabel Cowin, Quincy Ma and Kavya Karthik made up the two teams and participated in these activities. When we first arrived we were a little nervous and we didn’t really know what to do but we quickly got our brains working and started answering maths questions. We made some new friends, enjoyed working as a team and discovered how fun maths can be.
