During Term 1 all Year 10 girls participated in a ‘Self Defence for Women’ unit of work as part of the compulsory Physical Education curriculum. As well as the essential physical skills, students learnt the value of non-victim behaviour, the importance of staying alert and the effective use of their voice. The girls were intrigued to hear real life stories of incidents involving girls/women who were able to diffuse potentially intimidating situations and they learnt just as much from listening as they did from ‘doing’.
Year 10 students are at an age when they are gaining more independence, seeking to socialise more with friends outside the home and, in the next 2 years, increase their leisure time activities dramatically. We are confident that your girls now have the skills necessary to assist them on their safe journey into adulthood.
