On Saturday 8th October, Hollis Huang of Year 10 received an Outstanding Award for his performance in the 2016 University of Melbourne Mathematics Competition. This placed him in the top 25 of all the exceptionally gifted mathematics who competed in the Intermediate Division of this competition. In reference to the magnitude of this achievement, the head organiser, Professor Tony Guttmann, stated “we congratulate you on your achievement as only the most able are successful at this level”. Matthew Xu, who also won a Certificate of Merit for the Junior Division, placing him in the top 50 competitors, was unable to attend the formal presentation ceremony.
