Despite an unfavourable weather forecast, Tintern girls and boys mostly from Years 5 and 6, with their Thai buddies and staff, headed to Belgrave for some fun, riding on the famous Puffing Billy. On only the second full day of the cultural exchange, the students excitedly shared experiences on the old steam train, sang songs, played games and explored the delights of the Australian bush and birdlife. Several kookaburras were most accommodating, posing for our tourist guests and the cockatoos at Grants Picnic spot were magnificent. We kept our eyes peeled for lyre birds too. Luckily, sunshine stayed with us all the way, so our daytrip showed off the best of Melbourne’s winter and Mt Dandenong’s beauty. We hope our new Thai friends enjoyed the excursion as much as we did, and will remember it for years to come.
