Year 5 girls spent a consistent part of 2018 linking their Kilometre club fitness routine to a sponsorship scheme for children in Kenya and Tanzania. Regular sessions, 2 to 3 times per week certainly builds up. The students carefully recorded their completed kilometres on cards, and eventually received certificates of recognition up to 200 kilometres for their commitment.
By November, we ended up with just over $500 and the staff at Sotheycan were delighted and thankful, suggesting that the money went toward a village of 120 orphaned and vulnerable children. Here is a link for those who may care to look. All those sweaty kilometres certainly paid off and gave (almost) as much satisfaction than buying Christmas gifts.
