Senior College News

We have entered our final week of transition and it was terrific to welcome the Year 10s back from camp and hear such glowing feedback about their experiences. It was a busy morning for them as they organised lockers and navigated new timetables. I am still meeting with students who wish to change their subjects but they are encouraged to contact me as soon as possible do discuss options for next year. The Year 11s seem quite happy to just enjoy being together and I have appreciated their calm manner towards transition and they are looking forward to the prospect of a pizza lunch this week. For our Year 12s they have settled into their upstairs social and study spaces quickly and seem to be quite at home. As a school we were so proud of their behaviour at the “Year 11 Formal” and with plenty of dancing and food the evening flew by and this photograph captures them as a group enjoying Potters Restaurant.

For families of our departing Class of 2021, we have the filmed Celebration Evening to be screened at the Coburg Drive-In on Thursday 9 December. A reminder that COVID Marshalls shall be checking that all eligible people can show their double vaccination status and QR code into the venue at the entry gates. A refreshment package has also been ordered to enjoy while watching the screening. The Class of 2021 Year 12 Formal is also approaching on Monday 13 December at Bramleigh Receptions. Information will be sent home shortly about the Valedictory Dinner to be held at Leonda by the Yarra on Wednesday 9 February 2021.

VCE results will be released on Thursday 16 December and there is a most comprehensive list of Change of Preference Events, Activities and Support hotlines etc published on the VTAC website at:

https://www.vtac.edu.au/institutions/inst-cop.html I will be sending out further information directly to the Class of 2021 Year 12 families with my Careers contact details and availability later this week for both the VCE and IB students. A reminder that Year 11 students undertaking a VCE Unit 3 and 4 subject are encouraged to register for their results using the Results and ATAR Service at https://resultsandatar.vic.edu.au/results/applicants.htm as they do not have a VTAC account. Using this service means that the students can access their results from 7.00am on Thursday 16 December. They will need their VCAA number to register.

The Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Award from the University of Melbourne is an academic enrichment program designed for high achieving students during their final years of school in Years 11 and 12. Professor Kwong Lee Dow is a former Vice-Chancellor and distinguished scholar and recipients receive a number of benefits and opportunities. The Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Award for this year for Tintern Grammar goes to Max Lalor and we congratulate him on this prestigious achievement.

Today is our “Touch of Christmas” day organised by our School Leaders and there is a considerable amount of tinsel, Santa hats and Christmas apparel which complements the Christmas trees dispersed around the Senior College. Families have been generous with the assortment of Christmas items to fill our Big Boxes of Kindness that will brighten Christmas for families who are in need across the wider community.

Senior College students are also joining the Middle School Tintern Tough Mudder event on Friday 10 December. Interested Year 10 students need to join the event at 1.00pm and Year 11 and 12 students at 1.15pm. At the end of lunch time students will need to get dressed in their full school uniform for our final assembly.

The Senior College Camp/Conference programs for Years 10, 11 and 12 will all be from Monday 14 to Wednesday 16 February 2022 so please make a note of these dates for next year. Finally, I would like to thank all families for their support of the school as we have worked together through what has been a challenging year but I am grateful that we have returned to our normal routines to finish the school year. The last day for students is Friday 10 December and they will be dismissed at the usual time of 3.30pm. My personal best wishes for the festive season and may families all stay safe and well.
