The Senior College has been a wonderful place to be during the first three weeks of term. Our students have embraced the compulsory wearing of masks and daily temperature checks that 6 months ago no one would have predicted would be part of our daily lives…yet here we are.
With our students now returning to remote learning there is an obvious sense of disappointment amongst staff and students but I have been so impressed by the maturity and understanding shown by our students and their commitment to contribute to this shared effort to bring down the daily case numbers we have seen in recent weeks. Our students and staff are prepared and have learnt a great deal from our experiences earlier in the year, possibly the most significant being the confidence that “we can do this” and we can do this well. Remote learning does have some challenges for students and I really encourage parents to contact the school (a teacher, mentor or level co-ordinator) to let us know if you do have any concerns about your child, whether it be from an academic, social or emotional perspective. We’re here to help in any way we can and we remain committed to maintaining connectedness and a sense of community during this time.
Our Year 11 students have recently commenced the leadership process for the selection of our student leaders for 2021 and I anticipate there will be a great deal of interest from students looking to share their voice and contribute to the leadership of the school in their final year.
Our Year 12s have taken part in two ‘dress up’ days in recent weeks to boost morale and create some interest. It has been wonderful to see them creatively dress up in PJs and as something beginning with a letter from their initials. It has created some interest and conversation as well as some much needed laughs 😊
