Descartes: Cogito ergo sum – I think, therefore I am
An inaugural interschool Philosophy Workshop took place on Wednesday 11 November. This program, run by Tisha Eggleston, provided participants with an overview of some key areas of philosophical thought, including theory of knowledge, metaphysics, ethics, morality and logic. Students engaged with the fundamental questions of existence, working together to construct frameworks upon which individual and societal understanding and morality is based. The day was interspersed with discussion, conundrums, solving of hypothetical problems and a viewing of Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Measure of a Man. There is no doubt the students left with a deeper knowledge of the world of philosophy and thinking skills which they can transfer into other areas of their academic studies. Sincere thanks from all participants goes to Ms Eggleston for making this opportunity possible.
