Annual Music Concert – A Night to Remember!

The Annual Music Concert on Friday 9 August was a night to remember once again! This is an event where all the large instrumental ensembles and choirs come together to perform in the CM Wood Centre. There was a range of pieces performed which made for a very entertaining concert where we enjoyed a diverse range of musical styles!

The items performed at The Annual Music Concert have been rehearsed for many weeks and months, including at our recent Music Camp. We heard choirs, orchestras and bands, and the evening ended with a large ensemble specifically created for our massed finale! Our featured finale this year was Baba Yetu, from Civilization VI, by Christopher Tin.

The students performed with great enthusiasm on the night and shared in a glorious experience. We would like to thank all of the Music staff for their leadership, tuition and support of our musical performance.

Jazz Band plays at “Essentially Ellington”

Essentially Ellington is a festival run by the Jazz at Lincoln Centre in the US which is designed to improve the musicianship and sophistication of high school bands. This event, held at Xavier College, was attended by our Senior Jazz Band on Saturday 17 August.

Not only is it a festival, but the Jazz Band also had a professional workshop where they got to work with renowned jazz drummer, Jerome Jennings. Jerome earned a Masters Degree from the prestigious Juilliard School in Manhattan NY and, in the Fall of 2017, he accepted the position as Resident Director of The Juilliard Jazz Orchestra.  In preparation for Essentially Ellington, the Tintern Jazz Band, led by their conductor Mrs Clarke, has been rehearsing their pieces: ‘Whisper Not’ by Benny Golson, ‘Bewitched’ by Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers and Symphony in Riffs’ by Benny Charter. The Jazz Band presented an excellent performance and the students had lots of fun and learned heaps in the workshop.
