Learning Chess – it can help problem solving skills!

Every Tuesday this term, the Year 3 and 5 classes have been explicitly taught strategies for successfully playing chess by Paul, the expert. The energy, excitement, collaboration and focus displayed by the girls is a credit to them and their problem solving skills are improving weekly. On top of this great opportunity, the girls that have discovered a true passion in this area are able to voluntarily participate in Chess Club at lunchtime. Some of the fabulous benefits the girls are gaining include:

  1. Improved concentration
  2. Development of problem solving skills
  3. Improved memory
  4. Practicing using both sides of the brain
  5. Learning planning and foresight as well as;
  6. Improvement of attention span

Each week Paul records the results of the girls’ games and at the end of the term they will be presented with a medallion for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place within their classes.
