This week we have a special guest introduction from Adam Kenny – Head of Boys’ Junior School, Director of Students, Student leadership and House Co-Ordinator…
“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” —Martin Luther King, Jr.
“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples.” —Mother Teresa
As the Apollo 13 disaster unfolded in 1970, there was sense of pessimism and fear of the failure that was looking imminent. As those around him forecast doom, Mission Commander Gene Kranz stated, “With all due respect, this is going to be our finest hour.”
As we continue to face the challenges of 2020, it would be understandable if the Year 12 class of 2020 had become despondent, or adopted a ‘why us’ mentality. Yet they have been remarkably flexible, positive and unified as they maintain an infectious enthusiasm and sense of “we can do this”.
The Year 12 class have walked this unique journey so far, striving in step, with focus and unwavering care for one another, and while they may very well miss some annual events, their spirit has been unparalleled and unforgettable, like none before them.
This has very much been driven and modelled by the school leadership team of Annie, Ashleigh, Audrey, Dylan L, Dylan W, Hannah, Jeremy, Josh, Lachlan, Natalie, Phoebe, Tess and Tiffany, and our House Captains Lauren and Finn, Tom and Darcee, Eva and James, Zoe and Mitch and Margaret and Stella.
In so many ways they have risen in the face of adversity, displayed initiative and drive and role modelled an attitude that has very much led the rest of the student body.
Activities such as the Term 2 Run To Perth, Tintern’s Got Talent, and the I’m Still Standing video have kept our Community active, involved and connected.
At the start of this term, the leaders initiated a People of Tintern activity where they have interviewed members of our Community, and these weekly interviews can be viewed via the People of Tintern tile on the School portal.
In the face of the latest restrictions, and as all Year levels move to remote learning, the Junior School, Middle School and Whole School leadership team have united to organise and initiate yet another activity that reflects the care and support they continue to show for each other and our community.
Each morning, for the remainder of the term, our Year 3-12 students receive an email from a different leader.
The email contains a song, a story of inspiration, and a quote or wellbeing activity. It is yet another way in which the Leaders display that they are thinking of, and are staying connected with, each and every student.
It is certainly a “..time of challenge..”, yet our leaders have stood strong and tall, and created ‘ripples’, and been supported by a student body who share similar strength and stature.
As we head to appointing our 2021 leadership teams, there have been no better examples of how to be a leader displaying Factis and Verbis, than our 2020 leaders, and the Year 12 Class of 2020.
They deserve acknowledgement and our greatest respect and admiration.
