From the Principal

This week we have a special guest introduction from Ashley Viney, Head of Sport.

Physical Education and Sport are vital parts of the curriculum in schools. In a society where nearly two thirds of the adult population are overweight or obese, it is even more important that a healthy and active lifestyle is promoted and maintained for general health. The benefits of sport and exercise are well documented in studies and include: increased mental health, better academic performance in the classroom, various physical health benefits, increased social connections, community engagement, inclusiveness, teamwork, resilience, perseverance, dealing with disappointment, problem solving skills, creative thinking, making friends and many more.

Sporting clubs are an important part of the community as they allow people of all ages to work together to achieve common goals. From young students who are dreaming of being an elite sportsperson or older generations who are playing for fitness, enjoyment and the social aspect, sporting clubs appeal to people of all ages for different reasons. Students require ways to engage with community sporting clubs and further develop their skills outside of the limited time at school they are playing sport. Schools should be working with community sporting clubs to provide places for students and parents to learn and develop their skills in a variety of areas on and off the field.

With this as a focus, I have been developing a pathway for our students who would like to participate in sport out of school hours. I have been working with various sporting clubs to offer our students a pathway to play their sport at a community club. These clubs have been carefully selected to ensure our students and parents receive the best environment possible to develop their skills and themselves. There are many other wonderful clubs out there and these are a recommendation to start your sporting pursuit.

If you would like a copy of the Sports Pathways Booklet which contains contact details for the clubs or any further information, please email me at or download a copy here.
