From the Principal

This week we have a special lead introduction from Ashley Viney, Head of Sport.

After 2020, a year in which very little sport was played it has been fantastic to see the students back out on the sporting fields in 2021. Last year outlined the importance of regular physical activity and sporting competitions. This year, Tintern Grammar students have represented the school extremely well so far, achieving some outstanding results in a variety of weekly EISM sports and also in the swimming and athletics carnivals. During our summer season the Years 8 and 9 Girls Tennis team won the premiership, the Years 8 & 9 Girls finished runners up in the Indoor Soccer grand final and Senior Girls Table Tennis A also finished runners up. The majority of other teams competed in semi finals for their sports.

On Tuesday 9 March Tintern Grammar competed in the EISM Division 2 Swimming carnival at Ringwood Aquanation. The students had trained well in squad training leading into the event and were confident in their abilities. There were some fantastic efforts from David Derham (Year 8) who swam even though he was injured, Leia Yeoh and Yi-Jen Hsu (Year 7) who swam two age groups higher than their own to ensure that we scored points in every race. The students swam extremely well on the day against strong opposition from Donvale Christian College especially. The carnival was extremely close all day with Tintern and Donvale exchanging the lead on multiple occasions. The carnival came down to the last few relay events. Congratulations to all of the students on the day for the fantastic result and to our swimming coach Graeme Stephenson.

Congratulations to the girls for winning the overall girls’ trophy and the U/13 girls and U/16 boys for winning their age groups. Congratulations to Tintern Grammar students for winning the EISM Division 2 carnival and being promoted back into Division 1 in 2022.

On Tuesday April 27, Tintern Grammar competed in the EISM Division 3 Athletics Carnival at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park. With some excellent performances from our students in the house athletics carnival only a week prior, staff and students were looking forward to the competition. Tintern Grammar students competed hard in each of their events and consistently achieved good results throughout the day. Having our seating area at the finish line allowed the students to cheer on their peers as they were completing their races. With the only score update near the end of the day having Tintern Grammar only 10 points clear of second and 40 points clear of fourth, the final track and field events would decide the winner of the carnival. Tintern Grammar performed well in each of these events to give ourselves the best chance of winning the carnival and promotion to Division 2 in 2022.

Congratulations to the Tintern Grammar girls’ students who won the overall girl’s trophy. Congratulations to all of the students for winning the EISM Division 3 carnival and promotion back to Division 2 in 2022.

It is fantastic to see the students embracing their sporting opportunities again this year. We look forward to the competitions to come in the second half of the year with more weekly sport, EISM Chess and EISM cross country.
