Emma Pearson wins science writing competition at Monash University

Emma Pearson (YG 2013) (left) appeared in The Age on Wednesday 4 November for winning a science writing competition at Monash University. To help prepare our next generation of scientists for this dynamic, evolving work environment, all Monash University Science students take a second year unit designed to school them in the dark arts of science history and scientific good practise, communication and ethics.

As part of this subject, the students were set the task of finding a recent, peer-reviewed scientific article and distilling the essence of the research into a 200-word press release designed to capture the imagination of the lay public while accurately conveying the main messages of the researchers.
