Dr Seuss welcomes us back to school

The First Day of school cover

It was with much excitement that our Junior School boys returned to Tintern Grammar for 2016. And just coincidentally, Tintern Grammar has the same initials as Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr Seuss.

Whilst his books contain lively use of words and fun stories and characters, Dr Seuss books also contain many valuable themes and words of advice. And so it is that our theme for our Junior School boys for 2016 revolves around the quotes of Dr Seuss.

In our first day assembly, every boy received a copy of the very original Dr Seuss-type book, The First Day At School, which highlighted not just the fun and characters to which they could look forward, but the important quote “Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you”.

After lunch on our first day, every Junior School boy participated in Dr Seuss activities, such as the ‘I Wish I had Duck Feet” relay, ‘Yertle The Turtle” stacking, and making Marshmellow and strawberry ‘Cat In The Hat’ skewers. It was a fun way to finish the first day at school.

Our Junior School offers so many opportunities for our boys, and engages them in an environment in which we celebrate them being themselves, without them feeling fear or pressure from others, or the need to conform. It is going to be another exciting year in our Boys’ Junior School as we immerse ourselves in the creative world of Dr Seuss.
