Boys’ Middle School News

I’ve just spent two days at the National Boys’ Education Conference which included many wonderful presenters speaking on topics relevant to the education of boys in today’s world. The scary thing that came from the conference were the number of issues facing boys of today and the increasing levels of depression, anxiety and even suicide in young men. A real positive that came from the two days was the way in which we are going about things here at Tintern in terms of parallel learning and looking to provide a pedagogical approach more suited to the boys in both our Junior and Middle years. Not that we are doing it perfectly for our boys, but more importantly that we are looking to ensure that our teaching strategies and methods are more aligned with where the boys are at from an emotional and cognitive level during adolescence. It was a wonderful two days and I can highly recommend speakers such as Michael Carr-Gregg and Dr Justin Coulson who were just two of many great presenters. A good article that was mentioned to us for parents was one written by Maggie Dent. Click on the link below to have a read.

The last few weeks of school has seen our boys involved in many activities including an excursion to Hanging Rock, rehearsing for co-productions, auditioning for the 2018 musical, competing in Maths Games Day competitions, fundraising for a myriad of organisations, competing in sporting competitions, winning titles in sport, learning poetry, plus so much more.
