Boys’ Junior School News

In our Boys’ Junior School we have commenced recognising International Neurodiversity Week.

In a daily Prep to Year 6 gathering , we speak about Neurodiversity, based on the idea that everyone has a differently-wired brain and their own unique way of thinking and experiencing the world.

Yesterday we focused on the learning variation of Autism. The following, 4 minute video was shown…it is a terrific explanation of Autism.

Today, we discussed ADHD.

We watched the following video and then spoke about how we can support those with ADHD, and the strengths of those with it.

Once again, I stressed that having some of the traits/nuances, such as daydreaming, being distracted, and having lots of energy, DOES NOT necessarily mean that one has ADHD!

Most importantly though we focussed on the need to respect, be compassionate and understanding of anyone in your class who is different or who is finding something difficult.

Each day we will be give the boys a coloured ribbon representing each Learning Variance.
