Girls’ Junior School News

REPORTING LIVE FROM YEAR 4!

In Term 3, Year 4 students explored an Integrated Studies unit on ‘Natural Disasters’. We undertook a project, where the girls created television news programs that investigated various topics, bushfires, tsunamis, cyclones, floods, and earthquakes.

The girls worked in small groups to research more about their topic, compose scripts, plan costumes, film and edit. We used a green screen and various editing apps to elevate our finished product and allow us to film in different locations, whilst not even leaving the Colebrook Wing.

Their news programs required scientific, geographic, and historic analysis, by explaining how they are caused, where they occur most and which ones in history have impacted communities most.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed working together to play reporters, scientists, and survivors of natural disasters. Their videos they create then became a learning tool for other students.

Other activities we have enjoyed throughout the term have been poetry-writing inspired by natural disasters, hand-made volcanoes (we erupted!), themed artworks, creating fire-safety campaign posters and much more!

Next term, we move onto a new topic – SCIENTRIFIC! This is where the girls will explore different scientific experiments and STEAM challenges – posing an aim, predicting a hypothesis, and evaluating the outcome. It is sure to be a lot of fun when we get up and atom!
