Music Camp
Our Annual Music Camp is scheduled to take place at school this weekend, 22-24 July. In light of current COVID concerns, this will not be a particularly social event such as we have held in the (now distant) past. Rather, Music staff and students will come together for extended rehearsals and enjoy getting their teeth into some great repertoire. These works are being prepared for our Annual Concert on Friday 5 August. Students are only required at school when they have rehearsals to attend. When not required at rehearsals, students will be expected to be picked up by parents or head home under their own steam. If students have to remain at school for another rehearsal, they will undertake private study, suitably distanced from others.

Tintern’s Jazz Night always is a much-anticipated event on the Tintern musical and social calendar. Our Friends of Music Committee decorate the CM Wood Centre and the students certainly dig out their finery for a great night of music-making and dancing! We are welcoming Ross Irwin’s Dance Band, ‘Creole Cookout’, who promise to have us up on the dance floor dancing the night away. For further details or booking Click here
THE JUNIOR SCHOOL MUSICAL SHOWCASE:
A TRULY JOYOUS NIGHT!
After two-and-a-half years of stage silence, it was an absolute JOY to watch and listen to the Year 3-6 students in their Musical Showcase at the end of last term. The evening comprised live and recorded performances by all Year 3-6 students in their various ensembles. These ensembles included the Orchestra, Training Band, Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs, Rock Band, Paganini Strings, Junior Strings, The Year 6 String Quartet, Junior Band, Year 4 Xylophone Ensemble, Year 6 Percussion Troupe and Bel Canto.
The music performed ranged in genre from the much-loved Can Can by Offenbach and Canon in D by Pachelbel, to the more modern nationalistic tones of My Island Home made famous by Christine Anu and Barrier Reef by Kathy and David Blackwell. There was even some exercise drumming to the very dance-worthy Dynamite by BTS!
The evening concluded with a song from Superstan, our Boys’ Junior School musical that is to be performed for audiences later this week. We look forward to the opportunity for the boys to showcase their acting, singing and dancing in this fun and energetic musical on Thursday.
Finally, a big thankyou to all the students, families and staff who helped to make our 2022 Junior School Musical Showcase such a fabulous event! Not only was it the culmination of their efforts in Semester 1, but really a culmination of dedication, perseverance and commitment to music, even though the rewards of performing live were not possible until now.
